All year long, we eagerly await terrifying movies, and this month's selection has so much to offer. Films from the producers of Weapons and Barbarian, along with horror movies based on creepypastas that have been scaring people for years, here’s our list of 5 horror movies premiering in May 2026.

Hokum (May 1)
A writer (Adam Scott) visits a hotel where his parents spent their honeymoon to scatter his parents’ ashes there. During his stay, he discovers that a staff member is missing and that strange things are happening at the hotel. From the director of Oddity and Caveat, and the producers of Weapons and Barbarian. This horror movie premieres on May 1, 2026.
Deep Water (May 1)
This movie also premieres on May 1, 2026. A plane crashes in a tragic accident, and the survivors cling to life in the horrific conditions of the ocean, surrounded by sharks. What will they have to do to survive? From the director of Deep Blue Sea and Die Hard 2.
Obsession (May 15)
From director Curry Barker. A boy falls deeply in love with a girl, but she doesn’t feel the same way about him—until he makes a wish that she will love him more than anything in the world. But no one told him that love could turn into a sinister obsession. Can this wish be reversed? Or will she love him until death do them part?
Passenger (May 22)
After witnessing an accident on a road trip, a couple is haunted by an evil presence. A film that promises to be terrifying from the director of The Autopsy of Jane Doe, set to premiere on May 22, 2026.
Backrooms (May 29)
From A24 and Atomic Pictures, this film is based on the 2019 creepypasta that originated on 4chan and revolves around a series of large rooms that transform into long hallways and endless mazes accessible through interdimensional portals. From creepypasta to the big screen, this film is a pure blend of horror and fiction that will leave you with plenty to think about before stepping into another room.
Bonus: Mortal Kombat 2 (May 8)
Although this is an action/fantasy film, it includes graphic violence and gore, so we couldn’t leave it out of this list.
